When in Medellín...
Two Uber cancels, three missed hailed taxis and twenty minutes later I was finally on my way to the other side of Medellín. See transportation is a thing everywhere in the world. When riding Uber in Colombia - which is considered illegal - sit up front so folks will not know it is Uber. When riding in a taxi get in the back, so you don't get crazy looks and uncomprehensable Spanish spoken about you.
The next lines are for those who can handle BOSS moves only.
Our first day in Medellín we met with Dope accessories designer Catalina. Now with my own ignorance, I expected a much older Catalina but found a young professional business owner, handling and managing operations, a team of designers and workers. BOSS! I fell in love with the family owned business, its values and social responsibility.
Cokorel is an accessory brand that designs for the everyday woman and her needs. Their services includes in-house laser cutting, laser engraving, industrial embroidery, handmade embroidery, punching and embossing. With a diverse product line of pouches (cosmetic bags), card holders, organizers, clutches, pineapple bags and passport holders. Again might I add BOSS! Catalina's mother and father started a laser and embroidery service 12 years ago, providing enhancements to Colombian fashion brands. Today, they have progressed to employ 30 people in their office located in the industrial area of Medellín. Their design and operational staff is housed upstairs and their product workshop and workers are all downstairs in a spacious, enviable space.
Creating their own products with their skills was always the plan and daughter Catalina has pushed the company to offer products we need. Cokorel also uses their powers for good. They provide remote work for women who are unable to commute to a job and provide opportunities to former imprisoned men who do not have the same opportunities once being released.
Graduating with a graphic design degree Catalina knew she only wanted to work with her family. She knew early that she would be an entrepreneur like her parents, even with having the opportunity to work for other companies and brands. Now the company that once had one table, has a studio full of machines, employees, and graphic technology. We are excited about the future of Cokorel, because designing for the everyday woman and the solutions we need is something that will never go out of style!
